It’s official: I’m bored! (Or, my soul’s boundless needs…)

bored

Mama Needs Mana put out a survey about our possible ennui in Warlords.

What causes boredom, aka, “Mere existence does not satisfy us?”

Well, as I predicted, my concern was that as an avid alta-holic, having multiple garrisons would wear on me. Yes, there have been surprises along the way with quests, regions, and class-specific needs, but I have to confess: the gold, the mining, the herb garden, and the professional cool-downs really have me down. And though I love pets, I hate leveling them, and am not a big fan of pet battles. So there is a neglected Leo the Lioness NPC on all characters, and a fishing shack that smells like yesterday’s sushi.

So why don’t I relish fishing, pet battles, etc.? I don’t know why. For real, if I could do pet battles on my i-pad I would be all over them. But Blizzard lags with tablet content, hell, they just got Hearthstone out for Android players. I’m sick of getting apex crystals for one and all, sick of getting tokens for rolls that turn into gold 90% of the time, and sick, really, kind of -eff-u-Blizz mad about the three craft items. Really? REALLY?!?!?! Can’t make it four, and then get some of tier bonus? No ‘you cool player, making this fake shit over years of your life, here’s a treat?’ buff? Haanta is at 612, and because the only way to get her gear is by doing heroic dungeons, which means I have to do Silver PG, or crafting things, which she’s at her limit, she’s screwed. No Molten Core Soup for you, hunter girl! What would have been a VERY nice touch is if Blizzard had made our crafted items Account Bound.

Yes, I know. This is the nature of MMOs. Go play something different. Get a fresh perspective. Sometimes I think we get saturated with change. I had this epiphany today that Draenor is wonderful, but it’s too much. If they had allowed us to have better models, (still not over it, still….not…..over….it)…..keep our beautiful characters as they were to the rest of the world, and not just to our own deluded mirrors, if they had provided a means of sharing garrison resources among all of our characters. For example, how cool if our characters could pop into one of our enchanting shacks, or visit one another? How wonderful if we could move the friggin’ furniture around once in awhile, eh? If you’re going to make it boring Blizzard, might as well go all out! Give us dishes to wash and beds to make!

The thing is, everyone needs a purpose and autonomy. We need to know if our characters and time are spent in an isolated land, we enjoy our own company. Right now Draenor is reminding me I don’t like being in my own head, and that’s a dangerous place to be.

So, let me go trap and hunt a few things. I’ll set a timer. And when that timer is up, logging off shall I to do some coloring outside the lines in my real world.

  1. On the subject of character models my husband walked by when I had my human warlock on the character screen. He yelled, holy shit! What happened to her? So yeah, even non-Azerothians can tell something’s just not right, lol.

  2. I haven’t managed to level an alt yet simply because of the thought of having to do my garrison on each of them. I understand that Blizz gave us something people have been wanting for a long, long time, and they didn’t just give us a house in some random town. What they gave us is amazing – it is so much better than what I thought it would be….but….I don’t want to do it every day on 6 toons, I don’t want to spend 100 days to make 3 items, I don’t want to invest that much time in some of my alts….

So I cant’ even get to the boredom stage – I am at the “I don’t even wanna try” stage 🙂

    1. Well I hope you understand this is squarely my fault; my garrisons are beautiful but having reached the height there is no more interaction. That is the trouble with a small guild…no one to invite over. Maybe what I am really talking about is social isolation.

  3. Not sure if this will help, but you can boost your ilvl past 615 using the garrison missions and the salvage crates. I’ve done that with my hunter, she’s never set foot in proving grounds, let alone a heroic, and she can hit up LFR/MC.

MC will be gone in a couple of hours but you can get to lfr using your garrison if you have the ‘right’ buildings. LFR is kind of nice now, in my opinion. Lots of ppl disagree with me, but I like it.

As DPS, I’ve found I have nothing to do while in the queue. I’ve *never* had nothing to do while being in the queue. Everythign is too much time/effort to get to without personal flying. I do my archaeology,b ut then having to go from SMV over the Frostfire ridge as alliance is horribly time consuming and painful. I used to just fly around and see what I could find. Now it feels more effort that it really should be just to do some archaeology.

    1. I changed some things around on her gear, sacrificing her ‘better’ crafted weapon for a +10 point piece of crafted gear, so I managed to get her into MC at the last minute. Ran with a great group, so that made it palatable. I use the garrison missions whenever I can to get gear for my alts, but that is so hit-and-miss. But here’s the thing: unless you’re a regular raider, which I have been but am struggling with schedule issues now, most of the play-time is very passive. And like you said, I too have experienced where I have nothing to do in game while waiting for queue, but–I kind of like that. I haven’t tabbed out so much since forever, and it’s more fun to go look at Youtube videos or Facebook posts, or gee, read a book, than hang out in Azeroth picking Draenei boogers. And Draenei boogers are gross.

Basically, my philosophy is only boring people get bored, and right now I am a boring person. Boredom is an emotion, and emotions change. I have always depended on my creative side to yank me out of boredom muck, and I’ll try it again here, too.

Do miss flying though, for all the reasons you stated.

  4. I can’t stomach doing garrisons on an alt, let alone levelling it. I have a hard enough time doing my main’s garrison and all the “chores” associated with it. Fortunately I keep myself busy doing all sorts of other things, but I can pretty much say that having to do garrisons kills any kind of altism I have. Other than collecting the cache everyday I suppose.

    1. I was wondering about you. I know there is still a ton of things to do, and I’ll get there. I just needed to step away for a bit. The garrisons are beautiful, that is for sure.
